Could you tell us the nature of the service or business you are involved in?
"Fugui" is involved in artwork exhibition management, display and selling, as well management and application of data related to employees, clients and vendors.

Why do you want to use FileMaker in your business?
As an SME, it’s common to process data with basic document and trial balance softwares. However with the expansion of business branches, we’ve seen an increasing number of information and the significance of point-to-point communication. The old tools were no longer capable to meet the business challenge, which drove us to look for other solutions. Some of the solutions are customizable but the costs and equipment investment are not affordable to a small business like us; using package software may result in inconsistency between our operational process and designer’s logic; or sometimes the steps required to go through by the software may make simple operations complicated. After learning FileMaker, we are able to customize a system based on the existing work process and logic, and keep improving it to solve more problems.
In addition, any employee can make a report in his/her familiar way, but not all of them can run it completely. When an employee is terminated or transferred, problems always take place in terms of handover. With FileMaker, we are able to duplicate the work process, so as to enable the next employee to take over immediately. If he has better ideas, we shall be able to add new functions at any time and ensure work efficiency.

Before using FileMaker, did you have any problem with the tools you were using? Or did you have any trouble in your business?
For the management of stock, sales and allocation (warehouses and retail stores) data, it traditionally depends on trial balance software or ACCESS and single machine operation consumes a lot of time in checking and updating. We have to share and distribute materials by printing on paper (correction on paper can be inefficient but it has become a tradition). FileMaker supports cross-platform operation and improves the efficiency of data transmission and query. Import data at any time and staff in other cities may see it instantly. Transmission of data is faster and everything is smoother.

How has FileMaker helped you? Can you give some examples and description?
It has changed our work habit totally. When we have something to do, we’ll think about importing it into FileMaker and exporting the result we want (data). Just do once and process the same task easily.
(1) For instance, the quarterly assessment form consists of data like employ’s name, yearly salary, etc. Of course you may print on a blank paper, but we want it perfect. Just import dozens of pieces one time, and employees need to check and modify again and again. FileMaker integrates all the related reports in one place and enables to operate all of them by region, unit and rank with one click.
(2) As a manager, you need to collect a large amount of date across departments and units. On FileMaker interface, you may ask related staffs to store data into the database and export report data you want for management.
(3) FileMaker supports both iPad and iPhone. We’ve set up an artwork database which displays the thumbnails, and we’ve also designed a mobile system. Taking inventory, prompting to set up image folder and capturing photos on cell phone, everything is that easy.
